Android.. the iPhone killer! And open source!

Anyway back to the bar, I have emailed the creator of the bar, and have suggested that he heeds some of the feeback given.

If you guys can give me some screenshots of how it looks in your browser, please post.

I like the bar actually, and it sits nicely at the bottom of the page. It has more benefits to me as the site creator than hindrance.. but I agree, the user should be allowed to "hide" the bar at the bottom, but as for the other in-line links and statistics is provides me, I cannot remove it, until I have discussed it with the creator Smiley

Right - you two are bleating on about Android phones (I'm running a fairly old HTC Touch diamond, which is pre-'droid, but planning to upgrade to the HTC Legend when it is out), which of you two are REALLY pro-open source, and is running Linux, eh?! I do, and it's kicking the crap out of anything Windows related (though it still a wee bit buggy at times).

Chan, don't say you are pro open source - you bloody test DarthSoft Windows!

(Scrap toolbar etc etc etc).

The bar can be easily hidden by pressing the down arrow on the far right (difficult to do on phone browsers, sorry) but it appears to reappear when the page is refreshed.

And i'm all for open source, i may even have a crack at developing some sort of NTBPT news widget for android!

@Martin

Sorry, Android is the google operating system for many mobile phones and the "Google Phone" (search Nexus One). Think of it as a mini laptop in your hands/an iPhone (but better!)

As I understand it the current designed behaviour is that it sit at the bottom of the page, that you can hide it (but it comes back again when you navigate to a new page or refresh) and when you highlight a small section of text a picture of a magnifying glass appears beside the highlighted section.

If you are experiencing behaviour that deviates from that if you could post a brief description of the behaviour you experience (e.g. bar half way up screen) what platform & browser you are running and if possible attach a screen shot. Given we have the creator looking in this information would be helpful to them.

For me it's doing what it's supposed to, if I'm honest I'd rather it wasn't there (so I'd prefer it to be hidden by default) but it isn't really getting in the way & I'm running XP with the latest version of firefox.

Yeah i agree dave, it doesn't really get in the way for me and i'm using Chrome (google boy!) on an XP machine at work and Chrome on windows 7 at home and it's not a problem, only when using a mobile browser, but it's not a huge issue. Cant really get a screen grab from my phone, but that uses a google browser (like chrome, maybe a "lite" version) and Kay has told me i can disable flash apps on it so will do that.

Maybe a possibility to have a version thats optimised for mobile browsers? I dont know how easy/difficult this is to do....

Also, while i'm here, is there any way to disable the emails being sent (a way i can do it just for me) when someone replies? They are handy now and then, but my inbox is full of them!

I'm using a Sinclair ZX81, but the colours aren't very good.

Do the techies on here think it's worth me saving up for the optional ram pack  Huh?

Yes, go to your profile page (Bit that says "Profile" at the top), and there is a thing about notifications in there.

if 38K of RAM and a 2MHz processor was enough to send a man to the moon it's enough for you!

When I hide something I don't expect it to jump in front of my face every time I try and do something else.

The next person who says I can hide it by clicking on the arrow on the right is going to get a punch up the hooter.

If I want to look something up I'll use google like God intended.

I don't want this crappy piece of shit along the bottom of my screen, keeping careful note of everything I look up.

Get shot of it.  Last warning.

Thank you very much for taking the piss outa the size of my RAM.

You may have done me irreparable psychological damage, but if my Sinclair can muster up some free memory I will try to open one of those Viagra emails I'm always getting, and try to start the long road back to recovery.  Cry

Ogri, you can hide the toolbar thingy permanently quite easily.

Just stick some black gaffer tape along the bottom of your monitor.  thumbsup
