I don't know....I'm not convinced I'll let Westmonster off that easily just for backing out of a tax they should have scrapped ages ago. Maybe if they scrap the tax and improve existing bays* and open up their bus lanes to bikes (I can't see any valid reason not too other than it makes them a bit of extra cash for every unsuspecting biker), then I'll give them a break.

*Long bay near me is on a road that people frequently speed on and there is no protection for the bikes from oncoming vehicles. At night coupled with London's famously poor street lighting, my black bike was invisible and has been downed a few times, sometimes causing quite expensive damage. I've given up repairing the fairing and clutch/brake levers as it will inevitably happen again.

....oh and of course no CCTV cameras of any use either being the right distance away or pointing in the right direction to catch these hit and run villains.

It really hurts to say anything good about WCC, but I believe Westminster already allow bikes in bus lanes. But be VERY careful on the borders as there is very little warning when you change boroughs and you'll get done!

What a wonderful thing a national unified transport policy would be. In London we have The Department of Transport, TfL and then the local council all having different policies. Bash

PS: Boris (via TfL) gave us access to bus lanes on Red Routes BUT ALWAYS KEEP AN EYE ON THE SIGNS!!! No Motorcycle symbol, no access.

2011 is reserved for Scamden or any other low-life council that try this crap.

It should take them at least that long to unpick all of the legal cock-ups that Wastemonster have made!

Been a while since I've been there but I thought most of the Regent street/Bond street/Oxford circus bus lanes were closed to bikes

Entering wcc from the south is no-go in bus lanes. Although they must be cutting down maintenance, cos if bikes aren't using it, then noone is cos I've never seen a single fecking bus in there!

And yes, regent/oxford/bond are not for m/cs. I take that route home from most demos, and filter right up to the A40 cos we ain't allowed in the bus lanes.

Westminster Bus Lanes which allow motorcycles are at these locations:

    * Cockspur Street - Eastbound
    * Kensington Road / Kensington Gore
    * Baker Street / Portman Square / Orchard Street
    * Haymarket
    * Bayswater Road
    * Piccadilly - Eastbound
    * Gloucester Place - Northbound

Source: http://www.westminster.gov.uk/services/transportandstreets/parking/parkingtickets/cctv/buslanes/

It must be the only good thing Westminster has ever done for motorcyclists.

A list of TfL Red Route bus lanes that bikes can use can be found here http://www.tfl.gov.uk/motorcyclesinbuslanes

We can also use bus lanes in several other London boroughs.

As letmyspeechfree said, just make sure you always check the signs for the motorcycle symbol if it is a bus lane you are not familiar with.

Was murder getting there this morning from the far east. Eventually rolled up 20 mins late worried I wouldn't find you only to find you had indeed RV'd at the roundabout I suspected you would. Traffic coming up from the south (not to heavy), but the tailback you caused coming in from the west was pretty impressive. By the time I turned up, 3 bike cops were already in the queue in front of myself and a fellow NTBPTer. Unfortunately as we passed the bike cops, he was accosted by one of them and asked to find somewhere to park up away from the roundabout and tell the officer who was in charge!
