First of all, please read this exchange of emails I had with Mr Goad yesterday. My personal comments follow.

Sent: 04 February 2011 12:23
To: Goad, Kevin
Subject: Traffic signing at junctions

Dear Mr Goad

I am aware that you had a meeting with Mr Graeme Jones last evening and that as a result of discussions you have agreed to review traffic signing in certain locations where moving traffic violations are regularly enforced by your mobile cctv units.

For your information I, as a member of the No To Mob, have had cause to consult the Traffic Signs Manual and it is my conclusion that the signing at various junctions where enforcement regularly takes place, does not comply with the legislation that governs the installation of traffic signs.

Please may I respectfully suggest that you suspend enforcement of moving traffic violations at the following sites pending the conclusion of your review. They are:

1. St Martins Lane WC2 at its junction with St Martins Place.
2. Clifton Road W9 at its junction with Lanark Road
3. Saville Row W1 at its junction with Conduit Street
4. John Adam Street WC2 at its junction with Villiers Street
5. Moor Street at its junction with Charing Cross Road
6. South Eaton Place SW1 at its junction with Ebury street and Semley Place
7. Westbourne Terrace W2 near its junction with Orsett Terrace
8. St Annes Terrace NW8 at its junction with Circus Road

Kindly acknowledge safe receipt of this email by return.

Yours sincerely

Thanks for your email. The review of sites is already underway and we have suspended enforcement at all sites in the interim.

Regards

Kevin

I hope that when this sinks in, all those who have $chunted or supported $chunting in any way will give themselves a huge pat on the back. When we first started $chunting only a few months ago (July 2010) today is a day we could have only dreamed of.

As we have seen only too often in our fight with WCC, to get them to acknowledge ANY mistakes is almost impossible, but our victory at Golden Square proved that it could be done.

So when I wrote that letter yesterday I was fully expecting to be either completely ignored by Mr Goad, or to receive some half arsed reply that really wouldn't have addressed the issues raised.

I was therefore completely stunned when after only a few hours I received Kev's reply (me and him are best buddies apparently and are on first name terms according to his reply) which we can take as an admission that there is something wrong not only with the signs at the junctions I listed, but also with other junctions where they may have enforced which we are not aware of.

Free Parking Warrior said earlier that to get WCC to review policy on ANY issue you have to move heaven and earth.

Well brothers and sisters, thanks to your noble, heroic and righteous efforts we have done just that and by doing so we have shut down a major scam that would have netted Wastemonster millions of pounds in dishonestly earned revenue.

The beast has only been tamed for now though, and the good news for regular $chunters is that it doesn't mean they won't unleash it again once they put their house in order and put up the correct signs.

Stay cool Cool

Any chance this may put the NoToMoB in the running for the westminster and pimlico heroes prize

Westminster City Council’s awards for people who are making a major difference to the lives of others, and suggested that if you know someone who has made a real difference in Pimlico, you should nominate them for an award so that they could win a £500 grant for their organisation or to help them continue the good work they they do.

I would like to thank “Bruce” for this morning nominating NoToMob an organisation devoted to campaigning against WCC’s Parking Charges on Motor Bikes, and currently campaigning against sneaky hiding of traffic CCTV cameras.  I have a feeling that an organisation agitating against WCC policy may not receive an award, but I applaud their humour and passion in publicising their cause.

NOT so Humourous now methinks

Well done NoToMob and I seem to think Bald Eagle was the one who came up with this smashing idea so lets not forget that.  All hail to you all.

It would seem that NTBPT have finally got WCC to take us seriously and that they're now realising that we are serious about not going away until they stop making us pay.

Hell STOP!!!! If you guys continue to blow smoke  up BE`s butt, he won`t be able to get his helmet on in the morning!!!!

Only joking!  Well done BE and to all that have put the effort in........I feel there is much more to do though before we relax too much. Knowing WCC as I do, this may be a "Cunning plan" to appease us, hoping that we all go away ASAP. Forgive my "Glass half empty" attitude! OldGit

I think these officials are frightened to be the next one we pick on.  BailiffHunter I agree that we can't relax too much but I also think (difficult for me sometimes after a glass or two of wine) that we should enjoy and celebrate the victories we do have as it increases morale.

I would just like to say that as much as I appreciate the plaudits, this was something that was achieved by the efforts of many.

Everyone involved should take credit for this stunning victory.

To all you guys involved I have to say well done!  WE did this. And if you think it's going to end here Wastemonster YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET!

My signature has always expressed what I thought about Wastemonster taking on the bikers in their attempt to extort money from us by way of a stealth tax.  Through $chunting, what we have taken from them is far more than we will ever have to pay them for parking our bikes, so I think it bears repeating time and again until the message gets home.

I would just like to say that as much as I appreciate the plaudits, this was something that was achieved by the efforts of many.

And one person who should really be mentioned as the one that sowed the first seed is Esinem. He's the one that first realised the the $camera cars were totally failing in their duty to make minor traffic offences more obvious in order to help drivers stop breaking the TMOs and, instead, thew cars were positively allowing the offences in order to make money.

THAT's the principle, and THAT's why they'll still be wrong, even after the signage is corrected.

The principle must be to achieve 100% compliance without penalties!

(But, where's the profit in that?)

See you all later!

Bald Eagle has long championed The Little Victories, amd we've had a good few of those.
Well, thanks to the NoToMob this is a significant victory and I salute all those involved in it.

Wastemonster deserve everything they get and this is a direct result of greedily taxing bikers to park.

Perhaps, when they next try something stupid they will consider the Law of Unintended Consequences and think what might happen if you Fuck With The Bikers.

Ha ha ha, little did they realise how exposed they were on their flanks (or maybe they did)!  ROTFL

Well WCC , in your arrogance of imposing an unjust tax that nobody wanted in a dishonest attempt to raise revenue by devious means out of the people you are supposed to be serving you have opened a real Pandoras box.........

You are now reaping what you have sown and I'm afraid this is going to get real messy for you when you have to pay back all your ill gotten gains............and you deserve every bit of it for your arrogant intransigent attitude to the public.....

Now do yourself a favour and scrap the bike tax and perhaps you might sleep a bit easier at night although I suspect it might be difficult to put the lid back on this one. Hopefully if the press can stop talking about reallity Bollox for 5 minutes and cover some real people issues then the whole scam that is known as the parking industry can be brought to book because people are sick of it. It's just wrong and if you've been stuck in your Ivory Towers for so long that you can't see that then I suggest it's time for a change of career or a least a long period of reflection of the disrepute that you have heaped on WCC in your dishonest attempts to raise revenue by the back door.

If not, we'll see you in court and be assured, we will do whatever it takes (leagally), this isn't going to away until the Tax  does.  OldGit

Trouble is, it's not just WCC who see Parking (for Cars anyway) as a source of revenue (which, as we all know, is illeagal) instead of a traffic management tool (which isn't) and appear to be perfectly happy to admit that that's what they're doing
