And what type of security devices? Camden have been using the railings with a low rail for some time. They don't get used much for locks and chains and they make it a pig to get off a bike in a cramped bay. I haven't seen a security device that actually helps and works except possibly the low rails in Finsbury Circus. But even with these I've banged a shin against them. (must look where I'm going!)

Has anyone seen this FOI to Camden? They say in their response that they haven't carried out any investigation with regards to pay by phone parking, however, someone seems to disagree and suggests that the council is lying... humm

It was reported as an aside by someone else in another forum.  No other related comments.

Quote
Imagine my surprise when I returned to the bike bay on Gt Russell St yesterday and found a row of these hubcap/ashtray thingies had been installed while I was at work! They'd managed to get them in place despite the bay being full of bikes, though they had given my ET4 a generous coating of mud in the process

The cynic in me says Camden are gearing up to charge for bike parking.

The cynic in me also says that Westminster has yet to install any such security in the bays round my way even though they've been charging for a year.

Very cheeky looks like they are trying to close all possibly challenges against it... however.. there is always an against. Also when are we planning our demo outside Camden Town Hall?

And is there any Camden All Councillor meeting taking place soon? And also of hand does anyone know the equivalent to Chalkley for Camden Council and their email address?

They're exactly the same rubbish as in Kensington & Chelsea that nobody is using. And WCC have also bought 200 of these pieces of sh*t.

Can we find out how much Camden paid for them compared to Westminster?Huh? I would submit an FOI but I am way too busy sorting out the mass mail and SMS system.. can anyone submit one to Camden to get this information.. along with a question as to why and who requested the security devices and what budget it was taken from?

The retail price is on their website - and fitting is very, very cheap.

Actually for ground anchors they are very good - one of the best you can buy, but we all know ground anchors aren't the answer out on the street.  Better than nothing, but not by much.

The trouble is that they're not popular at all, so why waste money in buying them?

£195.26 each. Plus fitting @ 15minutes labour per unit, plus cost of getting a truck and crew to each bay.

8 units at a bay; £2000 ish per bay?

I can't see them spending that sort of money out of the goodness of their hearts. Camden will follow suit, dotting the Is and crossing the Ts to show Failminster how to do it properly.

Camden will do it without a doubt but the mistake they are making is that ground anchors aren't popular. In winter they are under water and in summer covered in sticky cider where people have come up from under the canal bridges spilling it everywhere.

In places where people have forced two chains through one anchor it's been difficult to get them out and still doesn't address the point that cars have defined bays where bikes don't. Even if there were defined bays some people will still force bikes in so the whole thing is unfair and unworkable.

First, I agree that action needs to begin now with Camden and suggest this is on at least two fronts.

1. Let all Camden councillors know by email, phone, whatever, that there will be serious consequences for their image  Cry although some may be colourful  rathboneing – if they try to turn a minority 'vulnerable road user' group into their next source of motoring tax revenue.  Evil

2. Ask in similarly diverse ways, and with a broad range of styles, for a coherent explanation as WHY the council is considering this action and WHAT 'benefits' APART FROM RAKING IN MORE CASH by abusing traffic management powers – are proposed to 'justify' imposing new costs on riders who already pay more in road user taxes than is spent on roads.  crazy

Camden are watching us intently, and may hold off on any 'experiment' to see how badly westminster really come off. Yeah, they look bad to us, but to publicly humiliate them in the courts is the big win. Camden will have their people watching the case, and blocking up the loopholes we're picking at with WCC,
They will try something, but they'll have "observers insight" and know how to fight back...

Awesome stuff... time to prepare something... it would be good to also get the contacts of the equivalent of the Built Environment committee presuming Camden have something like that?

We should start hitting Camden very hard with our actions. They really haven't got a bloody clue of what's coming their way, have they?

The next demo should be a ride around BOTH Camden and Westminster, just to give Camden an idea of what's coming their way!

Oh poor Chris Knight, why did you post his contact details, Torytax? That's not nice of you! ROTFL

For those of you who haven't yet read our post re Camden security devices, be warned. It sounds like these Camden bureaucrats are cooking something with their "generous" decision to install security devices in their bike parking bays. We're smelling a rat.

Has anyone seen the last comment posted on an FOI to Camden?

It appears that they have LIED in their response by saying that they haven't yet looked into pay by phone parking at all, and that they are indeed planning to charge for motorcycle parking towards the end of this year.

WE MUST START TO HIT CAMDEN EXTREMELY HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
